Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall
Daughters of the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter DAR said “Thank You” and “Welcome Home” to over 400 veterans at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Moving Wall event on the south lawn of the Missouri State Capitol in September as we handed out Vietnam War Commemorative pins, stickers, and brochures.
Many veterans cried when hearing these words; they were honored and humbled by the tribute and in receiving the Vietnam War Commemorative pins. Family members thankfully clutched the cherished pins and stickers that they received in honor of their fallen veterans. Countless youngsters looked up in wonder at their dads and granddads as we declared them “Heroes.”
The chapter collected over $1,000 to rank as a 4-Star Sponsor in support of the Moving Wall event, and fifteen members served as greeters and assisted veterans and families in locating the names of the fallen Vietnam veterans on the Wall.
At the closing ceremony, on the stage in front of the Missouri Capitol, we were honored to have Missouri State Regent Morgan Lake present the DAR Community Service Award on behalf of our chapter. Don Hentges, president of the Jefferson City Veterans Council, received the award for his service to veterans and his leadership in community veteran projects, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall.
Our chapter has obtained Vietnam War Commemoration proclamations from Governor Nixon and Jefferson City Mayor Tergin. We are proud to join other DAR chapters across the country in official partnership with the National Vietnam War Commemoration.
